In May of 2010 I will graduate from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies (MLIS). This means that I will be a real, live, OFFICIAL librarian. Many people mistakenly think that anyone who works at a library, or anyone who sits at a reference desk is a librarian – not true. In order to become a librarian with the title, you need a bachelor’s degree in either library science or a related field and then a master’s degree in library science, library studies, or library and information studies.
Below are some pictures of a lovely lady I stitched for myself on a plain white shirt I got from Wal-Mart. The pattern is from the Sexy Librarian group of patterns from Sublime Stitching. I like this shirt a lot, for obvious reasons, and I get many compliments from strangers when I wear it. I also included a picture of the earrings I made for myself. They are super simple to make, but look like they’re hard to make.
Love the earrings. May have to dig out the jewelry makings again. Wish I could come to one of your crafting sessions!!
Amy — Love love love your blog! And I want one of these sexy shushing librarian shirts! You need to make one for everyone for graduation! tee hee!
Love keeping up with you an FB. See you around.
Hey, way to go on the degree…I get my MLIS in May, too! I LOVE that this shirt is what comes up when I do a Google image search for “embedded librarian.”
Good luck with everything, love your crafties! <3
Thanks so much! Where are you getting your degree? I’m trying to find a job…I was laid off from my library job after six years. It’s scary and exciting at the same time.
I’m finishing up at San Jose State University. I’m sorry to hear you got laid off. There’s lots of great jobs starting to come up now…things are looking up a bit. Good luck!
I love the shirt-has inspired me to start sewing again!
I’m just finishing up my masters at the mo and one of the uplifting (in an odd way) things I’m taking away is that in 5 years time 50% of the professional library staff will be retiring…
