One of my 2012 Summer Bucket List items was to visit Bay City, MI. This is my birthplace, and I still have several relatives who live there. I visited with my parents for several days in June, and our visit coincided with a visit my Great Uncle Ken and Great Aunt Mal, from California, were taking. I haven’t seen them in over 30 years! I visited with my Grandma Sowders, Great Aunt Olive, and Great Uncle Ken (different one); all of whom I haven’t seen in 13 years. Additional visits were made to my 98 year old Great Great Aunt Dorothy, and cousin Vickie and her family; all of whom I haven’t seen in 15 years. I rounded out my visit with my mom’s sister, Aunt Doris. I’ve seen her much more recently than the other relatives.

This visit is exactly what I needed! It made me feel good to be surrounded by people who just plain love me for being me. These are the people who have watched me grow into the person I am now, and even though my beliefs and views on the world may be different from theirs, they still love me anyway. That’s the kind of love and acceptance you can only really find from your own flesh and blood.

I wanted to make sure to get pictures of all the things about Bay City that I love, and my parents indulged me in is.
