May 2015 Hastystitch Embroidery Challenge & Contest

I’m doing something a little different this month, and I’ve added a contest component to the Hastystitch Embroidery Challenge! From May 1, 2015 through May 31, 2015, incorporate ALL of the prompts in this month’s Hastystitch Embroidery Challenge into ONE embroidery piece, and use #hastystitch on Instagram for a chance to win a $25 gift card to Sublime Stitching! The winner will be selected randomly from all entries on June 1, 2015, and announced June 2, 2015.

Use the four prompts to create an epic embroidery piece that you can give to your mom, or keep for yourself! You’ll need to use the Bullion Knot somehow, and then interpret the other prompts (Melon, Love, Mom) however you’d like. For example, you could make a melon colored bullion knot rose along with your mom’s name in a heart, or use the bullion knots to make antennae for a butterfly that’s sitting on a melon with stitching of your mom saying the word love, the possibilities are endless!

Hastystitch is a monthly embroidery challenge for stitchers of all abilities. The only rule for Hastystitch is that you have fun! The descriptive words in the challenge can mean whatever you want them to mean. For example, if one of the challenge prompts is “orange”, you could embroider the word orange, embroider a picture of an orange, embroider ON an orange – the only limit is your own imagination.

When you post your work on Instagram, make sure you tag it with #hastystitch. By tagging your photos, you’ll be able to connect with people all over the world who join in this fun, monthly embroidery challenge! I may even use your photos on my website or social media outlets.

Mary Corbet at Needle ‘n Thread has a great video tutorial for the Bullion Knot. Mary also has a great video tutorial for a Bullion Knot rosebud. If you’d prefer a step by step non-video tutorial, Nicole at Follow the White Bunny has a Bullion Knot tutorial, too. If you want to create a Bullion Knot rose, you can find that step by step tutorial on Red Brolly.
