#ThankStitching No. 28 with Ruby Maynes
I was enraptured with hand embroidery from a young age, having dress makers, quilters, and the like in my family. I love all things crafty, with stitching being my greatest passions.
2015 saw the birth of my darling daughter AND my small business, Club SewDa. I needed a flexible work environment that enabled me to work from home while raising my little girl. Hand embroidery also connected me with those deep family roots again – memories of hours sent with loved ones around the kitchen table hand stitching panels for family quilts.
It was a connection and joy that saved me during the wee hours of the morning when I’d be up with little girl, feeling tired and a loneliness I can’t quite describe.
And lastly, something I am HUGELY grateful for is the community that I find myself in, thanks to hand embroidery. I am surrounded by a collective of people who are passionate about their craft. This is encouraging and motivating!
#ThankStitching is a project to collect and curate reasons why stitchers worldwide are thankful for their particular needle craft. Look for daily posts in November with hourly posts on Thanksgiving Day.
