#ThankStitching No. 33 with Aimee Davis
When I think about why I love hand embroidery the first thing that comes to my mind is a sense of peace. There are so many things in day to day life that you can’t control – people, situations, money, jobs, weather…anything! But when I find myself in the midst of anxious thoughts or just plain busyness, if I can sit down with my hoop and needle, the picture in front me starts to come to life and I feel my life coming more into focus too. Embroidery becomes almost like a way to center myself – like an anchor.
But embroidery isn’t always easy and the picture doesn’t always come out the way I want it to. For some reason this doesn’t cause a sense of failure, but instead it almost empowers me. Embroidery is something I can take that gives me peace, but even when it falls apart I can still feel empowered.
That’s grace. And for that I’m grateful.
