#ThankStitching No. 34 with Stephanie Woodson
What that lump of supplies turned into- a #stumpwork beetle 😍 This was my first attempt and #tsnem project, I am so intrigued and excited by 3-d embroidery though so expect to see more! The hashtag is awesome to browse through, too. Lots of inspiration from other places in my blog post up today 👆🏻 #swoodsonstitch #embroidery #needlework #makersgonnamake #creativelifehappylife #ohwowyes #embroideryinstaguild #beetle
I am so thankful that I discovered embroidery, because it is the perfect craft for me as a stay-at-home mom with two young children. I don’t have to count anything, I don’t have to remember where I stopped or started, and it’s easy to pull out stitches and restart if I make a mistake. I can leave it lying around without worrying that the kids will mess it up and I can work on it while they are playing together. An unexpected, sweet surprise has been that my hand-sewn and embroidered projects are imbued with day-to-day memories as they grow up. I remember what I stitched as my daughter nursed in the newborn days, and what I stitched in the backyard sandbox on a sweet, sticky summer afternoon. I love that embroidery can be as simple or as complicated as I make it, and also that I’m inspiring my kids to make things with their hands, just like me! My favorite sewing projects are those that mix hand-stitching in; I love watching my kids play with something that I made.
#ThankStitching is a project to collect and curate reasons why stitchers worldwide are thankful for their particular needle craft. Look for daily posts in November with hourly posts on Thanksgiving Day.
