#ThankStitching No. 40 with Leigh Lukesh
Although I’ve spent the last few years experimenting and working with many types of needle and fiber arts including cross stitch, quilting, weaving and embroidery, my love and appreciation for all things handmade actually started when I was just a little girl. I would watch my mom sew clothes, aprons and pants for her Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. Along with her attention to detail while making the clothes, she also hand embroidered the faces and “i luv u” hearts on hundreds of doll’s chests throughout the years. I now share my creative life with my husband who paints and tattoos and 2 children who also have their own unique and creative thoughts. It comes to no surprise that every day at least one of us is creating something.
At the beginning of this year I had come across an artist on Etsy and Instagram (@cozyblue) who offers a monthly stitching club. Always admiring the art of hand embroidery but thinking it was too hard, I finally thought to myself “Yes, I CAN do that too if I just try it!” I purchased a subscription and have been stitching every day since then. The beauty of the many different ways to create lines, dimension and design through embroidery is awe inspiring! I am so happy that I get to use embroidery as a way to relax and connect with myself during the day when life gets hectic, as it always does. For those relaxing moments…I am thankful! I’m hoping to create more original embroidered pieces this coming year as well as continuing to support and learn from other makers!
I’d love to share my stitchy world with you all!
