#ThankStitching No. 48 with Jennifer Hardy
I’m a full time graphic designer and love what I do, but over the last few years I’ve found myself yearning to create something with my own hands, rather than on a computer screen.
I dabbled in crochet and sewing but wasn’t finding my niche. It wasn’t until I discovered hand embroidery at the beginning of 2016 that I felt I’d finally found a medium that allowed me the freedom of expression I’d been searching for.
Not only do I find joy in the work itself, but I marvel at the positive impact stitching has had on my mental health. I’ve suffered my entire life from depression and anxiety and when I’m stitching I can feel all my nervous energy melt away with each French knot and stem stitch. It’s one of the best therapies I’ve found!
I’m so grateful to have discovered this art and all the benefits it’s brought into my life.
#ThankStitching is a project to collect and curate reasons why stitchers worldwide are thankful for their particular needle craft. Look for daily posts in November with hourly posts on Thanksgiving Day.
