#ThankStitching No. 50 with Jenny Van De Wiele
Jenny Van De Wiele
'Tis the season for giving thanks in North America and I am very grateful for the warm sunshine! We have been blessed with a lovely autumn this year and my little family and I have been making the most of it before the cold sets in… we spent the past weekend staying with dear friends on their farm and it was absolutely wonderful! 🌻🍁💚 If you would like to get a head start on your Thanksgiving stitching, my 'Give Thanks' pattern is available in the #homestitchness Etsy shop – link in profile. 😊
I have cross stitched since I was 8 years old and have also dabbled in other styles of embroidery, but cross stitch has always been my favourite. After growing up in New Zealand and then moving to the United States as an adult, I lived with constant homesickness for a number of years. I began designing New Zealand themed cross stitch patterns in 2008 as a therapeutic way to still feel connected with my homeland. Over time, I have branched out in my designing as I’ve come to realise it’s not so much about the subject matter anymore, it is in fact the simple act of stitching that provides me with the sense of feeling ‘at home’ where ever I am! My needlework has also brought a sense of belonging to an international community and I’m grateful to have connected with so many other lovely stitchers around the world that share my love of creating with needle and thread.
#ThankStitching is a project to collect and curate reasons why stitchers worldwide are thankful for their particular needle craft. Look for daily posts in November with hourly posts on Thanksgiving Day.
