I’m thankful for stitching because, like many people, it’s helped me through a lot of difficult times and uncertainty. I love the portability of stitching; I’ve moved house ten times in the last four years and while 90% of my belongings got packed up and stored, my stitching was always accessible and kept with my clothes and daily use items. It kept me grounded while everything in my life was up in the air.

Stitching has also allowed me to channel my creativity into a form that I enjoy and am very proud of. My degree is in Fine Art and I focused on drawing and collage work, and my tutors hated me. I was continually told that my work wasn’t quite good enough and that I would struggle to make a living out of my art. Well, just a year after graduating and now focusing solely on stitching, I have a successful Etsy shop and have exhibited my embroidery at a public event. In summary, I’m thankful for the fact that stitching has taught me self confidence and self love.

#ThankStitching is a project to collect and curate reasons why stitchers worldwide are thankful for their particular needle craft. Look for daily posts in November with hourly posts on Thanksgiving Day.
