Today is my mom’s birthday! Being a snowbird, she’s down in sunny Florida soaking up the rays. I stitched up this cute sea horse from a pattern I bought from Kim at Big B on Etsy. Mom hung it in her bathroom, which is where I intended it to go. It looks small on the wall, so I’m going to need to stitch up some of the other elements in the patterns to go with it

Happy 3rd Birthday to the most awesome Chihuahua in the world…ZUZU!
Zuzu was born on Monday, May 18, 2009 to momma Maya and daddy Rascal. Human grandparents Kim and Corky assisted in the birth.
05.18.2009, Zuzu is born.
Zuzu joined our family on Friday, July 3, 2009.
It is one of the happiest days of our relationship.
It makes her name more meaningful, now that I think about it. When I got to thinking of names for her, I happened to think about the classic movie, It’s a Wonderful Life. I love the little girl, Zuzu (Petals)…you know, “Teacher says, “Every time a bell rings, and angel gets his wings.”

Zuzu quickly made friends with Karma and Mina. She allowed both to mother her, and she often seems to be part cat…

Each year for her birthday, we get Zuzu a new dress and a special treat.
And, yes, I sing her Happy Birthday.
This year we got her the neat sugar skull t-shirt you see her wearing in the pictures. It’s a color change shirt, and when she’s in the sun,
more colors appear (bought at Petsmart).
My guess is that Zuzu was a starlet, haunted by paparazzi, in a past life. She has no use for a camera, and she often lets her displeasure show by purposefully ignoring it. When she looks at the camera, it’s often because I lie to her and say that, “Daddy’s home!” when he’s not. Or I ask her if she, “wants some…”. I’m not totally cruel, I give her a treat afterwards.

About a year ago I thought it would be a good idea to reunite Zuzu with her momma and Daddy. She came to live with us when she was 6 1/2 weeks old, and I wondered if she’d remember, or just “know” these two Chihuahuas were her parents. It turns out she didn’t, and she wasn’t too terribly happy about sharing me with them.

When my son Logan was a little boy, my mom started a tradition in which she strung up a Happy Birthday banner on the fireplace.
Through the years I’ve carried on this tradition. Today the Happy Birthday banner hangs on our fireplace for my husband Todd who turned 34.

(I can’t help but hear Frosty the Snowman’s voice every time I say or write that!)

22 years ago today my dad took me to North Towne Mall Theatres to see the movie Fresh Horses. All I remember is that it starred Molly Ringwald, was pretty horrible, and I was uncomfortable the whole time. I kept having to get up and walk around. I was 9 days past my due date at that point, but it didn’t occur to me that I may be in labor. It did occur to my mom. She “had a feeling” that something was wrong. This was in the days before cell phones, so she couldn’t call to check up on me.
I passed a somewhat uncomfortable night and was awakened round about 5:00 am with the beginnings of labor.

I’m sending birthday wishes to my Internet friend Laura Jean! She and Todd were good friends in college, and, although she and I have never met, I feel like I know her through the stories from Todd, Facebook, and her blog. Heaven help her husband Matt and Todd if we were ever to meet face to face…
You may remember that I stitched up Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs for her back in May. I decided that she also needed the Prince and Queen.
