I found some neat picture frames half price at Hobby Lobby. They have curlicues, and look kind of vintage. There were some in color – green, pink, and black – but I wanted to customize mine. My plan was to take the glass off and paint them. Once I got them home, I discovered that I couldn’t take the back apart, so I had to use painter’s tape to cover the glass while I painted.
For the pink frame, I used a paint brush and acrylic paint. This was a PAIN! I had to do two coats, and there were tons of little crevices. After the last coat, I realized the pink was very dull, so I added a coat of Sparkle Mod Podge. Next I added a coordinating piece of scrapbook paper, and hot glued a magnet clip to the glass.
You can use this clip to leave notes for a loved one or clip a picture that you can easily swap out. For the 4″ x 4″ picture I use the app Postal Pix on my iPhone. I upload my Instagram photos to Postal Pix, and they print and mail them to me. (My Instagram handle is @amybyrnehenderson.) This service is easy to use, and I receive my pictures within a few days.
For the blue frame I used spray paint. This method was MUCH easier to do than the paint brush and acrylic paint method. I covered the whole front of the glass in painter’s tape, took the frame outside, set it laying glass up on top of a mason jar, and then I spray painted it. After it was dry, I peeled off the painter’s tape, and hot glued the magnet clip to the glass.
