Teacup Pincushion Tutorial

If you love thrifting, teacups, and sewing, then this is the project for you! Todd and I spent an afternoon scouring local thrift shops, and we hit pay dirt at Goodwill. They have so many teacups and saucers, and they are so inexpensive ($0.49 each!). One thing we noticed, that could be a problem if you’re matchy-matchy, is that they separate out the teacups from the saucers into two areas, so I got a bunch of great pieces, but they didn’t necessarily “go” with each other. But I think this makes this kind of piece much more interesting.

In the finished product above, the cup and saucer look like they’re a matched set, but they’re actually different brands. In the picture below, they’re totally different from each other, but I think they look so neat! I like to pair fabrics with modern colors and prints to give it a “Modern Vintage” feel.

Hi Amy — what a wonderful craft idea. I have collected a bunch of mismatched cups and saucers from all over — I love thinking about whoever used them in the past and what “fancy” occasions those delicate china pieces may have been a part of. Now I can turn a few of them into unique pincushions. Your directions and photos are so complete and easy to use. Thanks Bev
